A day in the mountains
Wild animals, mountain salt and local food
Start the day at Zoo del Pirineu, meeting rescued wild animals. Visits take place through guided activities, and you can choose one or combine several on the same day.
Then head to Cambrils to visit the Salí, Catalunya’s mountain saltworks, and, in season, swim in its saltwater pool. Finish the day over some traditional mountain food at one of Odèn’s restaurants.
A day in Solsona
Giants, old streets and local history
Start the day by meeting Solsona’s biggest residents. On the Gegants de Solsona experience, you’ll see the giant figures from the Festa Major and Carnival up close and discover the stories behind one of Catalunya’s best-loved popular traditions.
Afterwards, stay in the old town, wander through its streets and squares, have lunch in the centre and explore Solsona at your own pace.
A day in the Vall de Lord
Water, mountains and adventure
Swap the car for a kayak and discover Llosa del Cavall reservoir from the water. Surrounded by the mountains of the Vall de Lord, it’s a completely different way to spend the final day of your break.
Afterwards, stop in Sant Llorenç de Morunys for a wander and lunch before heading home.

Frequently asked questions about a family break in the Solsonès
Do we need a car to get around the Solsonès?
Yes. You’ll need a car to explore the Solsonès comfortably. It gives you the freedom to travel between Solsona, Odèn and the Vall de Lord, stop along the way and combine different plans in the same day.
This is rural Catalunya: public transport takes things rather slowly. Let’s just say your car will be more useful than waiting for the next bus.
What can we do in the Solsonès if it rains?
There’s still plenty to do in the Solsonès when it rains. You can visit museums, discover the area’s heritage and traditions or spend some time exploring its towns. And rain doesn’t stop activities at Zoo del Pirineu either: we adapt them to the weather so you can still enjoy meeting the animals.
When is the best time to visit the Solsonès with children?
It depends on what your family wants to do. In summer, you can add kayaking, swimming and more outdoor activities; autumn is great for woodland walks and mushroom season; and in winter you can combine your break with a day in the snow. Zoo del Pirineu can be visited all year round.
Are activities and attractions open all year round?
Not all activities in the Solsonès are available throughout the year. This itinerary works particularly well in spring, summer and autumn. In winter, some activities take a break while seasonal options — especially snow activities — become available.

Should we book in advance?
Yes. We recommend booking ahead, especially for activities and accommodation. If you already know where you’d like to eat, booking a table is a good idea too. Distances matter in a rural area, and local businesses may have their own closing days.
The locals know exactly which restaurant is closed on Tuesday. Google doesn’t always get the memo.
